The plot of the Movie
The movie is based on a true story that occurred in August 2018, when heavy rains caused flooding in Kerala. More than 400 people were reported dead and nearly one million individuals were left homeless in what was reportedly the worst flood the state has seen in a century. While the Central Armed Police Force and the National Disaster Response Forces were sent on rescue operations, regular people also battled alongside them and tried their utmost to aid those in need.
The Kerala Flood of 2018
The state of Kerala in southern India was hit by heavy flooding on August 16, 2018, causing the most severe flood in almost a hundred years. One million people were evacuated, over 483 people perished and 15 are still missing. A red alert has been issued by the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority, and 3,274 relief camps have been established to house flood victims. Thousands of homes were ruined or damaged, 10,000 km of highways have been wrecked, and hundreds of communities have been affected by the water. Onam festivities were postponed by the government, and the budgeted money was instead used for relief activities.
Wayanad and Idukki saw significant rainfall as a result of the opening of 35 dams in Kerala which were the first in recorded history. Rescue and relief efforts were organized by the National Crisis Management Committee. According to studies, high-frequency tropical airwaves came from the Indian Ocean’s eastern equatorial region and went to Africa’s east coast. These waves encouraged convection and made moisture available, which caused the state’s repeated abnormal precipitation.
The primary filming for this film began on May 27, 2022, and it was shot in several locales around the sections of Thrissur, Ernakulam, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Idukki, and Kollam. Outside of Kerala, important spots were Thirunelveli and Hyderabad. The main firing took place on a 15-acre movie set in Vaikom. The last day of filming was November 12, 2022. The original release date for the movie was April 21, 2023. The release date was blazoned by the director Jude Anthany Joseph on social media. The new release date is May 5, 2023.
