August 16 1947 Review: Is 1947 transporting fans back in time?

The movie August 16 1947 was directed by N S Ponkumar, who served as A. R. Murugadoss‘s assistant for 8 years. The movie is about the conflict between Robert Clive, who kidnaps residents of Chengadu hamlet and sells them as slaves, and the villagers in 1947, the year India gained freedom. Has Gautham Karthik, who had a significant part in “Pathu Thala” and is regarded as a talented actor, continued to use that name in this movie as well?  let’s see the August 16 1947 Review here.

Gist of the story

A village that has no contact with the outside world. A cruel villain who tries to hide the news of freedom from the people living there. What happened in the end? This is the story of August 16 1947.

Gist of the story

A week before India gained its freedom in 1947, the narrative began. Cotton yarn is abundant in a community named “Sengadu,” which has little interaction with the outside world. Cotton weaving is the primary source of income for the locals. Robert Clive is a villain who employs people to work inhumanely for 16 hours without water or even the opportunity to urinate. Death to those who disagree with him, beatings, and boiling water to those who refuse to put forth any effort.

Justin, Robert’s son, is characterized as a vicious bully who picks up each woman he sees. The crimes they commit are supported by this village’s royal family. Justine, who at one point wants to take the daughter of the king also. But her childhood friend and crush Paraman murdered him(Gautam Karthik). Meanwhile, Robert wants to profit from the news of India’s independence, hiding it from the villagers. When he learns of his son Justin’s death, Robert sets out to avenge his murder. What happened to Paraman in the end? Did the people of Chengadu know the news of independence? Climax comes in answer to such questions.

Chocolate Boy Gautham Karthik had a great opportunity to participate in historic and heartfelt parts in the 1947 movie. Gautham has preserved the reputation he gained from “Pathu Thala” by delivering a decent performance that isn’t overdone anywhere. Similarly to that, if he selects well-written tales, he will undoubtedly get a dedicated following for him.

Pugalzh, a cook with comali show repute, is the buddy of the hero. Where he strives to tell folks the truth while having his tongue cut out, he deserves applause. Revathi, the movie’s heroine, has a similar appearance to Keerthy Suresh. It doesn’t appear that this is his debut movie. What a fantastic performance. Aside from them, every other actor in the movie did an excellent job.

Is 1947 transporting fans back in time?

The movie’s scenes transport us to 1947, the year India attained freedom. The first half of the movie asks “What happens next?” The second half of the movie leaves you guessing “This is what will happen next.”

That’s because several sequences that were added after the break were excessively drawn out. The film’s director, NS Ponkumar, has managed to maintain the audience’s interest despite several clumsy situations. There is not much doubt that he will soon be on the list of filmmakers to keep an eye out for, as evidenced by the success of his very first movie, “August 16 1947.”

In the end, “August 16 1947”, turns out to be a good historical tale without boring the fans.
