What’s Good: Ajay Devgn’s passion for creating an actioner that is perfect is commendable and this is a step in the right direction.

What’s Bad: Kaithi provided a path for Bholaa to follow, thanks to director Lokesh Kanagaraj’s success!

Loo Break: Not at all required in the first half and climax; still, you have a choice.

Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited directorial venture ‘Bholaa’ released on Thursday to much fanfare. Featuring Ajay himself, along with stellar performances by Tabu and Sanjay Mishra, the film is a remake of the 2019 Tamil blockbuster ‘Kaithi’ and has been made with a budget of 100 crores. Bholaa’s release had the audience excited and eager to know the critics and audience reviews.

Bholaa Movie Review: Story

Bholaa is released from jail and sets out to meet his daughter, when police officer Diana Joseph meets him. She asks him to drive the truck to the hospital, but he refuses. However, she persuades him to do so and takes her out of the truck, only to be attacked by several gang members. Bholaa must now escape these situations to save the lives of the 40 top police officers lying unconscious in the truck.

Bholaa Movie Review: Direction

Ajay Devgn has always had a fan in me since his first film U, Me Aur Hum. His vision for cinema has been cemented with films such as Shivaay and now Bholaa. One can only imagine what he could achieve with a good script. His direction of Bholaa has been highly commendable and deserves to be recognised.

Bholaa Movie Review: Acting

Tabu has the most screen time and portrays an aggressive police officer marvellously. Ajay Devgn gives a performance that is a mix of strength and vulnerability, although some of his character choices seem unrealistic. Sanjay Mishra and Vineet Kumar, if given even a little space on the screen, can bring life to it with their fine and talented acting. Deepak Dobriyal is gaining longer roles in movies, and succeeds in bringing them to life with his artistry.

Deepak Dobriyal has displayed an impressive performance as Ashwatthama aka Ashu in this film. His hunger for acting has enabled him to showcase his talent and has the potential to become a top artist. Amir Khan has successfully tickled the audience through his character of Kadchi. He is supported by Bholaa and Tabu’s character Diana Joseph throughout the film.

The film concludes with an unexpected twist. Abhishek Bachchan’s character makes a surprise entrance and viewers are left wondering what will happen next. The story of Vineet Kumar, whom Ashu has constructed a Mahabharata for, may be further explored in the next installment.

Bholaa Movie Review: VFX, Action Scenes & Background Music

The action scenes in the film are strong and the background music, given by KGF fame Ravi Basrur, is excellent. It has been filmed in an exciting style with great suspense and the director, cinematographer and stunt team have a good grip on the action. The BGM has been used extensively, not only in silent scenes but also while delivering dialogues, and although it sometimes overpowers the dialogue, it is missing when it comes to the story.

The film feels thrilling, but the story lacks the necessary fabric of relationships to truly evoke emotion. Typically, films of this genre start with home and family and move towards action; however, Bholaa’s story begins with action and moves towards family relationships. Despite this, the locations, set design and VFX have been expertly chosen and used with enthusiasm.

Bholaa Movie Review: Conclusion

Bholaa is a 144-minute action-packed treat for moviegoers. Ajay’s character is portrayed as powerful and intimidating, making for an interesting story. The plot of the movie is unique and full of action, suitable for watching with the whole family. Bholaa is a grand vision for cinema held by Ajay Devgn, and he constantly strives to find the right film. He continues to search for the perfect film that will make a lasting impression.
