It features Bellamkonda Sreenivas, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Sharad Kelkar, Bhagyashree, Freddy Daruwala, Rajendra Gupta in the lead roles. The film is a remake of the 2005 Telugu film of the same name, which was directed by S.S. Rajamouli.

The 2023 Bollywood version of “Chatrapathi” is an action-packed drama that revolves around the story of a young man named Shivaji who rises against the odds to become the leader of a group of refugees on an island. The film promises to be an intense and emotional rollercoaster ride for the viewers, with high-octane action sequences and powerful performances by the lead cast.

Chatrapathi Movie Review: Story

Chatrapathi is a remake of telugu Chatrapathi 2005, written by V. Vijayendra Prasad. V. Vijayendra Prasad wrote this story after watching Scarface. Movie plot deal with immigrants’ problems.

His mission leads him to cross paths with Sapna, portrayed by Nushrratt Bharuccha, who aids him in his pursuit, and the two soon develop feelings for each other.

As Shivaji continues his search, he finds himself fighting against Bhairav, played by Freddy Daruwala, and Bhavani, portrayed by Sharad Kelkar, who have been causing harm to his fellow refugees. Chatrapathi Movie Review: Performances

Sreenivas Bellamkonda delivers an impressive performance in the action sequences, delivering his lines with intensity and power. However, at times he appears confused about how to emote, particularly during sudden scene changes, such as transitioning from a sad scene to a song. This does affect his performance to some extent, but overall, Sreenivas performs his role fairly well.

Nushrratt Bharuccha has limited screen time, but she manages to convincingly portray her character. As her character develops, she fails to leave a lasting impression due to the limited screen time and a poorly executed switch in her role. She is featured more in songs than in actual scenes, which may be confusing considering her recent successful performances.

Bhagyashree aptly plays the role of an emotional mother who tries to hold on to her son’s memories even after his supposed death. However, the role is somewhat messily written, especially the emotional sequences, making it difficult for the audience to empathize with her during certain scenes.

Karan Chhabra struggles to portray his character’s grey-shaded persona, but he manages to deliver a convincing performance in some sequences. His struggles with emoting are evident in some scenes, but his character’s arch adds to one of the major highlights of the film.

Sharad Kelkar delivers a powerful performance as the menacing antagonist, executing his dialogue delivery, action sequences, and emotions with ease. His convincing portrayal of emotions is natural and effortless, making him one of the strongest actors in the film.

Chatrapathi Movie Review: Direction and More

Chatrapathi is directed by V. V Vinayak, who has directed many biggies in telugu Dil, Tagore, Samba, Adhurs, Badrinath, Naayak and Alludu Seenu. V. V Vinayak disappoints us with his direction, He is confidence in the story is evident as he didn’t feel the need to put in too much effort. Undoubtedly, the film has a good story. However, poorly shot connecting scenes can ruin even the best of stories, and unfortunately, this seems to have happened with Chatrapathi. SS Rajamouli had executed Prabhas’ entry scene exceptionally well in the 2005 version, whereas Sreenivas’ entry scene in the new Chatrapathi lacked that wow factor. Several pivotal scenes in the film are weak, and these scenes play a crucial role in advancing the plot. Moreover, the background score of the original film was exceptional, whereas the new version’s background score appears weak in comparison.

Chatrapathi movie review: Conclusion

Sreenivas Bellamkonda’s debut film is full of action sequences but falls short due to a predictable script, formulaic plot, and too many songs that interrupt the story’s flow. It fails to balance action with the emotional bond between a mother and son. The lack of strong writing, direction, and execution makes the movie tedious and uninteresting.
