Extraction 2 Review
The film “Extraction” directed by Sam Hargrave and starring Chris Hemsworth, is set to release in April 2021. Tyler Rake, the protagonist, is back on the set of his next mission, which involves rescuing his ex-wife’s sister and her family who have been placed in prison by a ruthless crime lord. The film is written by Joe Russo and has a story credit by Anthony Russo.
The first “Extraction” was a big surprise for me, as it came out in the middle of 22-20 April. Not much was happening in movie theaters at that time, so Netflix, Hulu, Disney Plus, and other places were kind of keeping things going. The John Wick franchise, directed by a former stuntman, is known for its action scenes, which are often praised for their skill and planning.
In this film, the level of work put into these action scenes and their construction of them, and the weaving of the camera through them is staggering. Most of the film’s promotional material revolves around hyping up a 21-minute one-take action scene, which is simulated with digital cuts and hidden edits. However, the feeling is achieved when Chris Hemsworth goes through one of the most badass prison riots I’ve ever seen leading to an escape to a train where he’s got to take down some helicopters with big ass guns.
One of the biggest regrets I had watching the film was not seeing it on a theater screen. I saw The Gray Man in theaters, but I didn’t see the first “Extraction” in theaters. The second film was even better, but I regret not seeing it on a theater screen.
The plot of the film is fairly formulaic, but the interplay between the characters adds to the tension. One character, the son of the crime Lord who puts him and his mother and sister in prison, is disillusioned and doesn’t fully understand what his father is doing. He thinks that there are criminals of sorts but still views it as a family and thinks that it will keep him safe.
The movie is broken up into three massive action sequences, with the first being the best, the second being quite good, and the third being okay. While there are some diminishing returns in terms of thrills, all of them are incredible to watch, and the stunt people and actors do phenomenal work. Ghost, who was awesome, kicked so much ass.
When it comes to movies like “Extraction” one and Two, I don’t expect too much from the plot. I just want to see a lot of Kick-Ass action, and both films deliver on that front. Overall, “Extraction” is a thrilling and entertaining film that showcases the potential of the genre and the talents of its cast.
