Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Heeramandi first look is giving us all the medieval royalty vibe. Given some classic blockbuster movies like Bajirao Mastani, and Gangubai Kathiawadi, he is again there to make another blockbuster we are assuming with Heeramandi coming up. With a glimpse of Heeramandi, Sanjay Leela Bhansali takes us on a tour into the world of courtesans where they were queens. The teaser begins with Manisha Koirala, all decked up in her royal classic avatar. Sonakshi Singha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chaddha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Shaikh all were looking angelic in their classic medieval look Sanjay Leela Bhansali Brings his majestic signature flair to stories of love and betrayal in the lives of courtesans in pre-independence India.
Heeramandi Story:
The story revolves around the life of three generations of courtesans situated in a place named” HEERA MANDI” before India got its independence from the British Raj. Heera Mandi somewhat shares the storyline as Gangubai Kathiawadi. Heera Mandi is a red-light area in the Lahore district of Pakistan. It reflects the world where courtesans were queens pre-independence era.
In Heera Mandi, there was a brothel named Anarkali Bazaar where prostitution used to be practiced. It was constructed at the time of the British Raj for the recreation of the British soldiers. The lives of these prostitutes were not a task, they had to go through lot of pain, and insult to sustain their livelihood. This is a story of these prostitutes on how they overcome all these challenges faced on daily basis.
This web series has all the elements in it that we as an audience is ooking for. By looking at the teaser we can assume that the plot, the storyline, the background, the cast is audience pleasing. Sanjay Leela Bhansali said that Heera Mandi is a “tribute to Mughal-e-Azam, Pakeezah and Mother India. Besides this beautiful ladies dressed up in royal clothes lies lots of sorrow and sadness on their face. However even though they are not respected in the society still they manages to keep a smile on their face and continue to live their life with dignity in the society.
This web series is the story of seven courtesans who are the also the queen Heera Mandi and how they have suffered and being humilated by the society and still rise up and fight for their dignity and eared respect in the society.
