Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story Review
The Bridgeton verse prequel series tells the story of how the young Queen Charlotte’s marriage to King George sparked both a great love story and a societal shift, creating the world of the taunt inherited by the characters in Bridgeton. India Martafeo plays the young Charlotte, Angola Rashuvel reprises her role as the adult queen, and Siri starts with a voiceover informing us that this isn’t a history lesson.
The show is filled with dry comedy and emotional drama, but it’s mostly centered on romance and the turmoil that’s raised as the two Central figures work through their conflict and pride. The Queen Charlotte series tackles the topic of mental health and physiological issues by showing the mindsets of those who are compassionate towards the king and those who are antagonistic or ashamed of his condition. It also provides insight into Lady Danbury’s relationship with the queen, as well as her life and how she navigated the Royal Court.
The set designs and costuming are lavish and beautiful, with monster-sized homes outfitted with tapestries and paintings, and an observatory featured as part of the narrative. The characters live out their lives in a world of opulence and excess. The Vitamin String Quartet provides instrumental versions of Pop hits and the show ties in with the Bridgerton series with Charlotte’s relationship with Brimsley and Violet Bridgerton’s influence on the past and the president. The show balances drama and romance with light-hearted moments and uses subtle humor and sarcasm to brighten the mood.
