Koduri Srisailam Rajamouli, popularly known as SS Rajamouli, is a renowned Telugu director and screenwriter. Born on 10 October 1973 in Raichur district of Karnataka, Rajamouli is widely praised for his excellent direction. His best works include Magadheera, Baahubali, Baahubali 2 and RRR – all of which have gained critical acclaim from audience and critics alike.
SS Rajamouli – Career
Rajamouli studied till fourth standard in Kovvur. He then graduated from CRR College of Engineering, Eluru with an engineering degree. He had a stint at AVM Recording Theatre, before working as an assistant to his father for six years, during which time he narrated his stories to various directors.
Starting his career as an assistant director with K. Raghuvendra Rao in an ETV Telugu show, Rajamouli made his big screen debut with ‘Student No. 1’ alongside Jr. NTR, which proved to be a hit. This success was followed by many other successful films. His entire family is associated with films.
SS Rajamouli’s streak of success began with Simhadri in 2003, followed by Sai, Chhatrapati, Vikramarkudu, Yamadonga, Magadheera and Maryada Ramanna, cementing his place as the king of Telugu cinema. Rajamouli’s hunger for hits knows no bounds. After ‘Eega’ (Makkhi in Hindi), ‘Baahubali’ series, and ‘RRR’ the acclaimed director is now teaming up with Mahesh Babu for an even bigger blockbuster in 2023.

SS Rajamouli and Rama, a divorcee, tied the knot in a court wedding in 2001, despite the 4 year age gap and Rama’s previous marriage. Rajamouli had been by Rama’s side since her difficult time and was not fazed by her divorced status when it came to accepting her into his family. Their wedding was attended by close family members from both sides and they have been living a content life ever since.
Rama Rajamouli is an acclaimed fashion designer, who first made her mark with the costume design for SS Rajamouli’s film Sai. Since then, she has continued to work with SS Rajamouli, designing costumes for all his films. S.S. Rajamouli adopted Kartikeya and has a daughter, Mayookha. Kartikeya is married to Pooja Prasad.

“Naatu Naatu: Triumphant at the Oscars 2023”
The makers of RRR including its star cast were thrilled to receive praise from renowned director James Cameron, who watched the movie twice and highly appreciated the song ‘Naatu-Naatu’. MM Keeravani’s heart jumped with joy hearing Cameron’s positive feedback, while director SS Rajamouli was in seventh heaven. RRR’s song “Naatu Naatu” won Best Original Song at Golden Globe Awards 2023, Critics Choice Awards 2023, and Oscar 2023. Rajamouli poured Rs 83 crore into the marketing of ‘RRR’, dedicated to bringing home the Oscar. His efforts were rewarded with a historic win.
RRR hypnotizing Japan
RRR, directed by SS Rajamouli and released in Japan on October 21, 2022, has become the highest grosser in Japan with a collection of over Rs 80 crore. It was released in 44 cities with 31 IMAX screens and has been in theatres for 20 weeks.
Party Time for Rajamouli?
In an interview, Ram Charan expressed excitement at the prospect of Rajamouli directing a Marvel movie, saying, “We’ll throw a big party if it happens! I hope it happens.” He added that he’d love to be part of any film that’s appreciated worldwide.
