Today, we’re going to look at five of Amazon Prime’s top hidden gem war films.
5. The Auschwitz Report
Peter Bebjak is the director of the 2021 Slovak drama film The Auschwitz Report. The movie is based on the actual story of two prisoners in Auschwitz who seek to flee to inform the public about the camp. The Auschwitz Report is a fascinating account, albeit it may occasionally be incredibly painful and difficult to watch. However, those that persevere will discover it to be incredibly compelling and well worth their time. It’s a sobering reminder of a period when everyone was living in denial, but it’s also a significant and sometimes overlooked aspect of history.
4. Spitfire
A British documentary film called Spitfire tells the tale of the Supermarine Spitfire including the last surviving WWII pilots. Charles Dance narrates the movie, which was released to mark the Royal Air Force’s 100th anniversary. The film Spitfire tells the tale of the iconic Spitfire fighter jet as narrated by its final surviving pilots. The documentary combines old videos of the planes with new footage taken with the still-operating aircraft. Both history enthusiasts and casual fans will find the aircraft’s tale and history to be fascinating. The pilot interviews are the best justification for viewing Spitfire, though. Their eyewitness experiences are captivating and represent the kind of unique personal World War 2 anecdotes that, regrettably, are dwindling in number.
3. The Front Line
The Front Line, a South Korean movie, is ranked third on our list. The Korean War is nearing its conclusion when the movie is set, and the North and South are battling for control of a key location that will define their future boundary. One of the best Korean War films you can discover is The Front Line, which is filled with action. Even though it has the typical Korean film flaw of being perhaps a little TOO dramatic, it’s still a fantastic picture to see in general. The Front Line is a great starting point if you’ve never seen a Korean War movie or are curious about this little-known conflict.
2. Hamburger Hill
Even though the majority of veterans of the war movie genre have certainly seen it, it’s a classic that sadly appears to gather a little bit more dust than some of its Vietnam War movie contemporaries. The real-life account of the 101st Airborne Division’s mission to seize the heavily entrenched Hill 937 during the Vietnam War is told in Hamburger Hill. Hamburger Hill is one of the all-time best Vietnam War films, but as time passes, I hear less and less about it. Do yourself a favor and check it out while you can if you’re younger and haven’t already, or if it’s one you missed or never got around to.
1. Beneath Hill 60
Beneath Hill 60 is ranked first among our list of the best Hidden Gem War films available on Amazon Prime. The First Australian Tunnelling Company, which assists British forces by tunneling behind German lines where they would put and explode explosives, is the subject of the 1916 World War I film. While The War Below, a 2021 British movie, shares many parallels with this one, Beneath Hill 60 is 10 years older and the superior of the two films. The gorgeous, realistic cinematography of Beneath Hill 60 will virtually have you scrubbing the muck from your fingernails. It will be worthwhile for you to check out this outstanding underappreciated gem.
